Tons of new indie music to close out the year with. Guillermo Ladd, Eaves Wilder, Dream & Onion, Wishy, Yard Act, Blank Spot, Nik Fields, The Umbrellas, Real Estate and much more, including a coda from Jon Batiste. Enjoy!
Yeah, I'm a day late posting this. Give me a break, it was Christmas! I'll bet next week is a day late too.
A couple of things about this week's playlist: This is almost entirely made up of indie acts, although a few signed acts are up there. The record industry, even now, is still in a radio mind-set and knows that all radio station play "best of" music for the last week of the year, so almost no one releases new music, unless it's something special, like the Jon Batiste track that closes out this set. I nearly missed it too, but man, what a great song. I expect next week will be similar - like a last breath before an onslaught of new music mid-January.
ALBUM SHOW NOTES
This week will be slightly different, as we will be playing TWO EPs by Guillermo Ladd back to back: "Insight" and "Insight Vol. 2". Between the two they make up a full album, and he refers to this as a single album in his Spotify biography, so why not play both and close out the year with an artist who should be a freakin' superstar. Don't let the Spanish Language dissuade you - this is as solids an outing of alt/pop as you will ever hear.
The Album Show will run this Thursday December 28th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday December 27th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST. All of the songs I feature on Radio Free California are played as part of the regular rotation. .
One last programming note: Every Sunday at 10am and again at 10pm we will feature our show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11 or even 12!) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST. Last week was 1966 (playlist below) and for next Sunday's show we're going to feature a small selection of songs from.. well you'll have to tune in to find out!
Surprisingly strong list of mew music this week from Sebastian Bach, Umphrey's McGee, Field Medic, Cigarettes after Sex, Sum 41, Paula Cole, Mick Mars, Los Baby Jaguars and much more. Enjoy!
A couple of things about this week's playlist: There is a song missing from this playlist that has been addded to the Radio Station. The band is from Japan and is called Mana Diagram and the song is called "Glitter Wind". A performance of the track is available on YouTube now (see the bottom of this post) but it's not out on radio or even available for streaming yet. I've already added it to the station. This is their first release and it rocks!
ALBUM SHOW NOTES
This week we are featuring the new album by Field Medic, entitled "dope girl chronicles". His new album is a pop/folk/shoegaze/singer-songwriter take on watching someone crumble under addiction, and although less than 30 minutes in length the songs pack a punch and that's why it's my pick to play for you this week.
The Album Show will run this Thursday December 21st at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday December 20th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST. All of the songs I feature on Radio Free California are played as part of the regular rotation. The first song on the playlist is "Glitter Wind" by Mana Diagram, mentioned above, which is only available on YouTube and on the Radio Station.
One last programming note: Every Sunday at 10am and again at 10pm we will feature our show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11 or even 12!) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST. Last week was 1986 and for next Sunday's show we're going back much further in time to... well... you'll have to tune in!
A heavier week for new music, including new releases from Lien, Ace Frehley, Geddy Lee, Califula's Horse, a fascinating re-release from Paul McCartney, Green Day, Big Big Train, Guns N' Roses, Velveteen and much more! Enjoy!
A couple of things about this week's playlist: I admit that I was as surprised as anyone to see a new Guns N' Roses song, especially one this dark and alt-rock. A lot of rockers put out new singles this past week, from Bruck Dickinson (of Iron Maiden) to Ace Frehley (possibly capitalizing on the timing of the last KISS show), Moldovia's Infected Rain, Green Day dropping a new single from their upcoming album, prog rockers Lien, Big Big Train and Caligula's Horse all dropping new singles, and even a very stripped down "Band on the Run" from Paul McCartney. Usually you get mostly Christmas songs this time of year so this week's finds were a happy surprise.
There are some indie acts in there too; my friend Kiffie (who is getting more and more notice in his native England - you should check him out on bandcamp), Velveteen, The Eyes of Heisenberg, Benjamin Russel with Rob Stuart and more all contribute new tracks.
ALBUM SHOW NOTES
This week we are featuring the new album by Los Angeles-based Health, entitled "Rat Wars". They describe themselves as "comfortable with their own uncomfortableness" but to my ear they sound like The Cure meets Nine Inch Nails. I feature a couple of their songs on this week's adds to the radio station but you should get the chance to hear the enitre album uncut, so it will be this week's feature on The Album Show.
The Album Show will run this Thursday December 14th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday December 13th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST. All of the songs I feature on Radio Free California are played as part of the regular rotation. This week, I even threw in an extra song that's not on the playlist above!
One last programming note: Every Sunday at 10am and again at 10pm we will feature our show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11 or even 12!) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST. Last week was 1983 and here is what you missed:
I am loathe to mention this man and his misadventures unless there is some comedy to be mined. Being called out by the AI bot you had invented twice on the same post is pretty fucking funny.
And because I love you, here is the new video from tAKiDA. I'll add the song to the station rotation next week.
New music this week from Mary Spender, Polyphonic Spree, Ariel Engel, Get Violet, Motion Sickness, Harp, Duran Duran, Grouplove, Pop Filter, the final single from the new Peter Gabriel Album, and much more. Enjoy!
A couple of things about this week's playlist: When we get into December most major labels hold back on new music, because every radio station in North America is playing only Christmas music. It's very difficult to break out with a December release although there have been exceptions. So for the next few weeks you're probably going to see and hear a lot more indie artists than usual. I'd say there's a real chance to discover new artists coming up.
By the way, Track 18 is in Ukrainian. It translates to "Don't Kiss".
ALBUM SHOW NOTES
I find myself in an unusual spot when it comes to the new Peter Gabriel album, ("i/o") which I have known from day one I would feature on the album show. Thing is, every song on the album has already been released, as Peter Gabriel has been releasing a new song every full moon for the past year. He's even been releasing two different mixes of each song.So now that the full album is out it's actually two versions of the same album.
So I'm going to have two different shows. One to play the "Bright-Side Mix", the version of the album mixed by Mark "Spike" Stent (Madonna, Beyonce, U2, Muse, Frank Ocean) and the "Dark-Side Mix", the version mixed by Tchad Blake (Suzanne Vega, The Black Keys, Phish, Crowded House). They have the same 12 songs but sound quite differnt and will will run on different days.
The "Bright-Side Mix" version of the Album Show will run this Thursday December 7th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
The "Dark-Side Mix" version of the Album Show will run this Friday December 8th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday December 6th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST.
Last week was 2005:
Look at the chart in this list and ask yourself, "Where would I want to live?" (also note the correlation between the minimum Wage and Abortion Rights).
On a semi-related note, did Biden reverse the reversals made by the previous guy of the policies of Obama when it comes to the country this guy was spying for?
Broken clock and all that, but my takeaway is that this is what happens when Rupert retires and they starting hiring women who aren't stereotypical bleach blondes.
New music this week from The Rolling Stones, an amazing new album from Ghost Hounds, Wallat, Bjork, Kiffie, Guided by Voices, Alex Kapo, Cleo Soul, a long-delayed release from The Veldt, Negative, Lien and much more. Enjoy!
A couple of things about this playlist: As per usual, my favorite song on a Rolling Stones album is the one sung by Keith Richards, which is on this playlist - and this is the best Stones album in decades. Other tracks I have released earlier and can be heard on previous lists and on the radio station. The Veldt is probably a surprise for those of you who know early shoegaze - their "new" album is the long-shelved and never-released album they recorded all the way back in 1989, finally available to the public. Hey, I have an album like that in my own catalog. Finally, I have to tell you about my discovery of the band Negative. They have only released two singles and both are on this list.
ALBUM SHOW NOTES
I have a college buddy named Karl. We're not as close as we once were, and he lives in Alabama now as a full Professor at Alabama State. He's a blues-rock king and has introduced me to several bands I would have never heard otherwise, and this week he introduced me to Ghost Hounds. Holy crap their new album just rocks and rocks. This is their 4th album so far, and I hope that like I did you go back and dig into their previous releases. They're all good and I'm going to feature the Deluxe Edition of their new album "First Last Time" on this week's album show.
The Album Show will run this Thursday November 30th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday November 29th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST.
Last week was 1979:
plus one other song not listed here. Heh.
Cheap shots:
Quick refresher Kevin, what's the name of the Museum that's in your district that mentions multiple times that territory was ceeded to the US thanks to wars?
New music from many an indie artist and a few from way way back in the day. We have Blush Hour, Mr. Groove, Dolly Parton with Pat Benetar, Madness, Judas Priest, Spells and Curses, SOS, Dua Lipa and much much more. Enjoy!
ALBUM SHOW NOTES
Some interesting new albums out this week and while it's tempting to play Dolly Parton's 30-song foray into rock I just don't have it in me to subject everyone to that. I mean, no one is going to say no to Ms. Parton covering "Free Bird" and "Stairway to Heaven" but was it necessary? There is also the new album from Madness. Yes, Madness. And what's more, it's a bloody concept album. But I have a spot in my heart for Juliana Hatfield, whom I discovered when she was playing bass for the Lemonheads. She's had a solo carreer since then (including her smash hit in 5 called "Spin the Bottle"), and in recent years has been alternating between solo indie albums and tribute albums - her first was to Olivia Newton John and her second was to The Police. And now she has released "Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO". It's a straight ahead and ernest groupd of covers from all aspects of the ELO catalog, with her own unique spin.
The Album Show will run this Thursday November 23rd at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday November 15th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST.
Last week was 1973:
Not doing cheap shots today. Don't have it in me. Instead, I ask that you respect the wishes of a kind lady:
In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers, P.O. Box 647, Americus, GA 31709, or the Carter Center Mental Health Program, 453 John Lewis Freedom Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30307. Donations can be made online at https://www.rosalynncartertribute.org/
New music this week from Maneskin, glass beach, Bloc Party, Field Medic, Allison Russell, Leo, PinkPantheress, the first new music from Scream since Dave Grohl left the band to join Nirvana, Wallat, Bas Jan and more. Enjoy!
ALBUM SHOW NOTES
Another good week with several albums I could choose from to feature on the Album Show this week, but I've settled on the new PinkPantheress album "Heaven Knows". It's a vibrant mix of R&B and Indie-tinged alt-rock and I feature a couple of songs from the album in this week's playlist. If you're active on TikTok you've probably seen some of her short songs, but I'm not so I only really discovered her this week. She started out on Tik Tok and eventually landed a record deal with Epic Records. She hails from England and has made a big impact there and has crossed the pond to the U.S., even contributing the song "Angel" to the Barbie Movie. What makes her even more impressive than the fact that she's done all of this by age 22, is the fact that she hasn't let severe hearling loss slow her down. According to Wikipedia she is 80% deaf in her right ear. Even with all that, "Heaven Knows" is her first label release and it's worth your time.
The Album Show will run this Thursday November 16th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday November 15th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST.
Last week was 2007:
New music this week from Judas Priest, The Veronicas, Peachy Dukes, Wolves at Midnight, Lenny Kravitz, lovelytheband, the final album from the late Jimmy Buffett, Wallat, Of All People, and a final single from these guys called... hmmmm... The Beatles? All this and much more! Enjoy!
The Drop Nineteens were one of the original "shoegaze" bands. They had a solid run in the 1990's and when they broke up their chief songwrite said he was done with the music business, and with music altogether. It's now 30 years later and everyone should know to never say never. The band is back with a brand new album called "Hard Light" and it's a solid album and worth a listen. So we've decided to play it for you this week on the Album Show.
The Album Show will run this Thursday November 9nd at 9th and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday November 8th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST.
Last week was 1987:
The only way to know what this Sunday will be is to tune in!
I do feel sorry for those he left behind, but it's amazing to me how many of these fuckers can't deal with the same pressure they put on others who don't deserve it either.
My DNA testing for this process took less than 30 days. Not nine months. This may shock you, but he's lying. (Full disclosure, I'm about as white as white gets.)
New music this week from Miles Hunt, Sub-Radio, Fever Live Again, The Wooten Brothers, Green Day, Peter Gabriel, Natalie Merchant, The Mountain Goats, Fish on Friday, Jethro Tull and much more. Enjoy!
There is a nice group of new album to play on the album show this week. Miles Hunt's new album is pretty good, and I've been a fan going back to the mid 1980's. King Gizzard & The Wizard LIzard release a synth-based album for the first time, Fish on Friday had already released a couple of great singles from their new album and it's finally out, but I finally settled on "Hold", by Wild Nothing. Wild Nothing is the name Jack Tatum, formerly of Jack and the Whale and Facepaint, uses for his musical endeavors, which began as shimmery, synth-washed indie pop in the summer of 2009. This is his first self-produced album since those days, although he's had several releases in the interum. This release is straight-ahead popwer pop with elements of alt-rock thrown in, and is a solid effort.
The Album Show will run this Thursday November 2nd at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time. For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday November 1st at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST. All of the songs I feature on Radio Free California are played as part of the regular rotation. This week, I even threw in an extra song that's not on the playlist above!
One last programming note: Every Sunday at 10am and again at 10pm we will feature our new show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11 or even 12!) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST.
No cheap shots this posting. I just wasn't feeling it today. Outrage all the time is tiresome.
An eclectic mix of new music this week including Adoraborealis, blink-182, Fish on Friday, Louis Cato, Atarashii Gakko!, Rik Emmet, Duff McKagan, Hannah Marks, Victory Peach and much more. Enjoy!
To the couple of you who actually listen to the radio station, where every piece of music we've put on these playlists this year can be heard, you might have noticed some dead air early in the week. That's because I made a teeny tiny mistake and erased the music database. You'd be shocked at how easy it was to do. I certainly was. I actually considered packing it in.
This is why you don't make decisions about things like this in the moment and why I don't do social media from my phone. Sometimes immediacy is terrible for you.
After a few hours I figured out an easy way to restore everything and by Thursday we were back to business as usual. That's where we are today.
Anyway, Let me tell you about Emma Anderson. She is one of the founding members of the band Lush, and I promise you would recognize her singing voice. After Lush ended she founded the band Sing-Sing, and now at long last she has released her long-awaited and COVID delayed first solo album, called "Pearlies". Working with the string arranger from Cocteau Twins and Suede Guitars Richard Oakes she ahs released a 10 song album that leaves you wanting more and we're going to feature it this week on the Album Show.
The Album Show will run this Thursday October 26th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday October 25th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST. All of the songs I feature on Radio Free California are played as part of the regular rotation.
One last programming note: Every Sunday at 10am and again at 10pm we will feature our new show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11 or even 12!) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST.
Cheap shots:
How much do you want to bet that <<ahem>> somebody winds up back on the Forbes 400?
And because I love you, here is the Video for this week's Atarashii Gakko! song, where they portray both the Kaijuu, some of the bystanders, and the Self-Defense Force in an old-style Japanese monster movie:
New music this week from The Supplements, Uni Boys, Jamila Woods, Sarah Jarosz, Kiffie, Teh Dandy Warhols, The Drums, Middlebees and much more! Enjoy!
Uni Boys are a young 4 piece that just released their 2nd label album after a couple of self-released albums and a fun first release. They remind me a lot of the early Replacements or perhaps The Posies. Solid pop/rock that doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. The station will feature their new album "Buy This Now!" on The Album Show this week.
The Album Show will run this Thursday October 19th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday October 18th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST. All of the songs I feature on Radio Free California are played as part of the regular rotation.
One last programming note: Every Sunday at 10am and again at 10pm we will feature our new show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST.
Cheap Shots:
A war crime, committed by and against people not in the war.
I keep using "The Handmaid's Tale" as a reference point and metaphor for the current anti-abortion movement in the United States, and people call me out for it. As long as bullshit like this happens, I'm not taking it back and I will never apologize.
New music this week from HUNNY, Descartes A Kant, Sweet (yes, that Sweet - "Fox on the Run" and "Ballroom Blitz" Sweet), blink-182, Vixen (yes, that Vixen), Joe Bonamassa, The Going Rate, Hiromi, Get Violet and much more! Enjoy!
I had a couple of great options for the Album Show this week, as HUNNY, Hiromi, Death Pill and Descarte A Kan all released new albums, any of which I highly recommend (the band Get Violet as of yet doesn't have a full album available). I've decided for this week we will feature the new album by HUNNY called "new planet heaven". This is a Los Angeles based indie band that's been around for a few years and this album is a product of honing their songwriting craft duyriing the pandemic (according to their website). The album is just over 1/2 an hour in length and packs quite a punch in my opinion, so I am sharing it with you.
The Album Show will run this Thursday October 12th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday October 11th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST.
Before I get into the stuff you really came for (i.e. me calling people names and riffing like an amateur John Oliver) let me talk about the undenyably horrific situation in Isreal.
I have no real good answers about who is right and who is wrong here. On the one hand, shelling a country with missiles and killing hundreds is never going to be a good thing, but neither is taking the land of people who have been living in the same spot for generations. When the Allies partitioned off a portion of Palestine for the Jewish people in an undenyable fit of guilt after their failure to stop the Holocaust they gave only a small portion of the land that Isreal claims today. I think that today the west mostly backs Isreal out of an extension of that guilt, because let's face it the man running Isreal is a criminal.
But it's not his fault that Hamas launched this attack. So why did Hamas launch this attach now? What's so important about now? People talk about how this was launched on the sabbath and a national holiday in Isreal but that hasn't worked out well for the attackers in the past. Everyone should keep in mind that it's not the Palestinians who are attacking Israel.
Hamas is to Palestine as the KKK is to Christianity.
It's also worth pointing out that one of Israel's top newspapers puts the blame squarely on the criminal currently running the country.
Two things worth noting: One is that right now we don't have a fully staffed chain of command for US forces in the region, and that is 100% the fault of the Republican Party, and one specific Senator who I call out below. But another thing I've seen a lot of print about lately is that some of the Top Secret/Classified information that was disseminated by the previous "President" was about troop movements and strengths of Isreal, and that by now it has probably been leaked all the way down to Hamas.
I don't know the truth of this and you probably don't either. But it should be looked into. Any bets as to if it will be?
=====Cheap Shots=====
Oh wait, didn't Jared Kushner already solve all of this shit?
He dropped off of Forbes' list (and not for the first time), but I notice that an awful lot of what gets counted as wealth isn't actual money. Given his current issues with the values of property, he might be worth much less (worthless).
Makes you wonder if they're going to be able to teach about the Enola Gay.
This is a good move, but I'm troubled by the fact that it doesn't say they have to release any of the past data they covered up.
And becuase I love you, here is the video for the blink-182 song in this week's list. It's hilarious, especially if you know the original inspiration:
New music this week from U2, Rolling Stones, Slow Pulp, OMD, Kiffie, Johnny Marr, Gunship, Saving Amber and much more! Enjoy!
How do I even explain the band Gunship and their new album, Unicorn? The band describes themselves as "A Neo Retro Futuristic Assault". That's it - their entire Spotify profile. What I would call them is a modern day band with its roots in everything about the 1980's that you secretly loved while telling your friends that you hated that stuff. You know, like Journey or Styx or Roxette. And yet they sound nothing like those bands. I can you that I like it, excesses and all, and I find it leaning towards anime music while staying rooted in rock and roll. But it is rock and roll to the excess - so much so that even Saxophonist Tim Capello is featured from time to time not only in their videos but in their albums as well. I was introduced to this band by a friend at counter.social, and this week will feature the album Unicorn on The Album Show.
The Album Show will run this Thursday October 5th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday October 4th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST.
As I've released a few covers myself I know for a fact that to release this commercially you have to pay for the right to do so. Actual cash money. That doesn't seem like a trait of these people. And yes, she's not a great singer but that sort of thing can be fixed in the mix. What I object to is the affected twang in her voice. She's from New York, people.
New music this week from Los Lonely Boys, The National, Dream Wife, Pretenders, Baroness, Teenage Fanclub, Kylie Minogue, Hiromi and much more. Enjoy!
yeule is the musical project of Singaporean songwriter and producer Nat Ćmiel (born Natasha Yelin Chang). Formed in 2012, Yeule incorporates elements of ambient, glitch and Asian post-pop.The name Yeule is derived from the Final Fantasy character of the same name (spelled differently), as well as their middle name. She refers to herself as "4th Generation Goth" on her Spotify profile. Her new album is called "softscars" and we're going to feature the album this week.
The Album Show will run this Thursday September 28th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday September 27th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST.
This motherfucker is getting people killed. (Full disclosure: I already got the new COVID Booster shot).
I'm no expert on these things but if you're looking for an equivalence wouldn't he be The Golden Calf? I mean, gold tan, gold toilet, gold letters on his buildings... how many fucking hints do you need?
New music this week from Vagabon, Olivia Rodrigo, Mickey Dolenz, Copperstone, Stephen Marley, Woods, Brian Setzer and much more! Enjoy!
Laetitia Tamko, better known by her stage name Vagabon, is a Cameroonian-American self-taught multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and music producer based in New York City. She and her family relocated to the US when she was 13 so that her monther could attend Law School. She got a guitar as a present at age 17 and the rest is history. Her third album, "Sorry I haven't Called" is out now and I added three songs from that album to the rotation this week, so of course it's a natural for The Album Show.
The Album Show will run this Thursday September 21st at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday September 20th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST.
No cheap shots this week. Between the former guy continually confessing his sins over and over again, MItch McConnel shorting out twice, Ms. Boebert picking exaqctly the wrong line of an Alanis Morrisette song to base her life on, the guy who owns twitter blaming his troubles on the Jews, every elected Republican of note strenuously dfending the 2nd ammendments of anyone not named Hunter Biden, NBC apparently letting their new Meet the Press host swing in the wind with an agreement to not fact-check a known liar, the same liar claiming he can beat Obama and prevent World War Two, A Presidential Candidate with a "Canadian Girlfriend", The chief medical official in one of the more populous states in the country telling people not to get vaccinated, a church picking up the cirriculum for AP African American Studies, the Senate dropping its dress code (but for Senators only), several people tryhing to restart talk shows only to back out because they were shamed back into reality, people claiming that abortion after birth is actually a thing, and a freakin' fighter jet just going missing...
How the hell is satire supposed to keep up with all this shit?
And because I love you, I once again present a single of mine I'm really proud of, which will be a Spotify pick for the month of October:
I took a week off so we have a two week batch of new music for you this time, including Peter Gabriel, The Rolling Stones, The Killers, Love is Noise, Dezit, Prince, Katy Kirby, Royal Blood, The Coral, Sarah Jarosz, William Shatner (!!!) and much more. Enjoy!
For the curious let me get this out of the way now: of the 9 nominations I won exactly ONE. Best Alternative Artist for "Woke AF". It was the first award of the night. I have to tell you, watching other people win in your categories for the rest of the night is humbling AND annoying. There was a very Jesusy feel to the evening, and that's not me. Anyway, it's over and let's move on.
Soft Science has a new album out called "Lines" and we will be featuring it on this week's Album Show. From their Spotify page: "Hailing from Northern California’s Sacramento Valley, Soft Science fuse melody, sound and texture of '60s pop and '90s shoegaze like molecular gastronomists blend physics and chemistry to transform food. Together this 5-piece band has managed to create their own sweet blend of modern pop music with a sonic edge. Their music is influenced by bands ranging from the Zombies and Beach Boys to Lush, Teenage Fanclub, Ride, Pale Saints, New Order, and Jesus and Mary Chain, along with newer artists such as Beach House and Frankie Rose. Current members/collaborators: Katie Haley, Ross Levine, Matt Levine, Tony Cale, Becky Cale, and Hans Munz." I don't know about all that but I listened to the album and found myself going back to relisten to tracks, so it's this week's pick.
The Album Show will run this Thursday September 14th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.
