Radio Free California Episode 2451, Radio Station notes, cheap shots and more.

New music this week from Envy of None, The Darkness, Juice Webster, Molly Payton, Sofie Royer, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Rival Sons, The Ceys, Snoop Dogg (with a little help) and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

Molly Payton is a New Zealand transplant living in London who up until now has been releasing EPs. She has an extensive resume thanks to this, including opening for such acts as Beabadoobee and Arlo Parks, as well as playing the festival circuit in Europe. She now has a full album out called YOYOTTA and it's a good one. Kind of alt, kind of folky, and solid songwriting throughout. I don't see it doing anything other than increasing her appeal and moving her career forward, and we're going to play the album in full and un-inturrupted on this week's show.

Other new releases worth your time include Sofie Royer's "Young-Girl Forever" - especially if you like your music a little funkier, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre's "Missionary" which is a rap album that sshows you just how it's done, aand on the more acoustic side is Andrew Bird and Madison Cunningham's debut collaboration "Cunningham Bird".

All albums are available in all the usual places.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

RFC 2451

For those of you who stay away from Spotify the current week's additions will be played on Wednesdays. This is a change from prior programming: what we're going to do going forward is just play the music added this week only. Every other day will be the usual rotation, but we set aside Wednesdays for just the new additions for the week. This week that's 33 songs which we will play in the same order that they're in on the Spotify playlist of the same name up at the top of this post. So if you tune in at just about any time on Wednesday you will hear the whole playlist.

10 at 10

One last programming note: Every Thursday at 10pm and again on Sunday at 10am and 10pm we will feature our show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11 or even 12!) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST. Last week I played a group of songs from 1980 (a good year, really), and this week we're going to pick another year we haven't gone to yet.

As always, you can go to https://global.citrus3.com:2020/public/radiofreecalifornia to listen to the station, and there is an imbed below. And did you know the station is available as an app? It's only for Google Play (sorry iphone users - Apples terms and conditions were too restrictive for me) but you can listen on your phone at your convenience too.

Cheap shots:

Kinda figured this would be the case.

Quoting The Onion yet again, again, seems kind of hopeless at this point.

The headline says it all, but let me add that ABC fucked us all.

Oh, by the way, the Federal Government runs out of money in 5 days.

Wow. Imagine having one of these for schools.

<sarcasm>Oh really?</sarcasm>

With all due respect, fuck you.

"You're not going to lose the polio vaccine. That's not going to happen." Narrator: "We lost the Polio Vaccine."

Do you honestly believe that this man will ever have a Library?

And because I love you, here's a little Chuck Mangione you might not know, from one of his later releases:

And why not have an extra? This is The Darkness and Ed Sheeran rehearsing a surprise appearance at one of The Darkness' shows in 2023. The actual performance can be found easily enough, but the rehearsal is kinda special:

Radio Free California 2450, radio station notes, cheap shots, and the great Dick Van Dyke

New music this week from Sub-Radio, The Aerovons, Charles Connoly, Hinds, Manic Street Preachers, Nada Surf, Phil Makes, Kim Wilde (yes, THAT Kim Wilde), Dream Theater and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

Charles Connolly has been releasing single after single for several months now, and I've added almost all of them to the radio station. At long last there is a full album containing those singles and more. He doesn't have a big following, but I like his work and I think you will to. From his Spotify Bio: "Charles Connolly is a critically acclaimed songwriter and producer from London, with pop songs spanning multiple genres. Originality, versatility and melody being the key attributes to his sound, Charles writes, sings, plays, sequences, produces and mixes his material entirely solo. His catchy melodies are bound to get stuck in your head with a fond familiarity yet a fresh vibrancy." It's actually a good description, and we will be playing the new album "Hands Up!" on the Album Show this week.

Other new releases worth your time include "Vicious Creature"by Lauren Mayberry, "Continental" from Phil Makes, "Moon Mirror" from Nada Surf, "Come And See" from Gurriers, and the Madrid, Spain-based Hinds gives us a bonus track edition of "Viva Hinds!" The album is mostly in English.

All albums are available in all the usual places.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

Cheap Shots:

I know I'm going to be saying this a lot over the next 4 years, but Incorrect, shithead.

Why Joe, why?

Incorrect, shithead. We want exactly the opposite.

How about let's tell them to Fuck Off instead. Don't play ball with these assholes.

I also think I'll be saying, "I tried to warn you" a lot too.

I admit that my first reaction here was to hope that he's not related to Chuck.

I guess he really is the new First Lady.

He sure seems to be stacking the next administration with losers, doesn't he.

Everything that happened in Syria happened pretty damned fast so I'm not fully up to speed, but this seems to ba a good move.

I hate to frame it this wasy, but when the American Care Act (i.e. Obamacare) gets gutted next year, will Congresspeople "have it coming"?

And because I love you, while I'm not a fan of the song this video is tear-jerking Gold - in a happy way:

Radio Free California Episode 2449, radio station notes, and so forth

Slightly shorter week for new music (happens this time of year) but still great stuff from total tommy, Hamish Hawk, Homecomings, Hot Chip with Sleaford Mods, CAKE, Lola Young, 37AM, Peach Fuzz and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

Once upon a time there was an electro-pop band from Melbourne, Australia called Essie Holt. It was mostly one person, Jess Holt, and it was pretty good but nothing groundbreaking. Even Ms. Holt recognized it and decided to take a couple of years off and redirect her sound. She has a new project, called Total Tommy, and it's some distance away from where she started. Dream-like guitars, solid riffs and great vocals. No electronica/keyboards. Not really. I first dicovered her when she released her first single, "microdose". As more singles have come out I've added them all to the radio station. Well there's now a full album called "bruises" and it's well worth your time, and we're going to feature it on The Album Show.

Other good albums out this week include "see you, frail angel. sea adore you." from the Japanese band Homecommings, "A Firmer Hand" from Hamish Hawk (picture a proudly gay Peter Murphy), Suburban Eyes self-titled debut album, and "Tigers Blood" from Waxahatchee. All good albums.

All albums are available in all the usual places.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

No cheap shots this week either. I mean good fucking lord every pick is either grossly unqualified or firmly against what they've been put in charge of. This is the most corrupt America has ever been.

And because I love you, would you believe I had never heard this song until yesterday? Video is pretty terrible, but the song slaps.

Radio Free California Episode 2448, radio station notes, and some "I told you so" notes

New Music this week from Lambrni Girls, The Virginmarys, Franz Ferdinand, Teenage Wrist, Blaudzum, She Drew the Gun, Kid Tigrrr, Chasing Zeniths, Spiral Drive, Opeth, illuminati hotties, Joan Armatrading, Body Count, Motorpsycho and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

What are we playing this week? Really torn up about it. I have finally settled on the new album by The Virginmarys, called The House Beyond The Fires. This is a great riff-heavy rock and roll album - the kind that doesn't get much radio play anymore and I think that's why I chose it over the competition, which I will get to in a moment. Their biography on Spoitify is full of industry buzzwords and self-hype and quite frankly is a bit of a turn-off. But the music is fantastic, well-written and well executed. Give it a listen.

The organization Playing for Change has been around for a while now, going around the world and eliciting some great performances of classic songs from artists of every stripe. You should really check out their videos on YouTube, which includes a band led by Robbie Robertson (in what I believe was his final live performance) and Ringo Star doing "The Weight", Peter Gabriel and Meshell Ndegeocello performing "Biko", Bob Marley's son Stephen performing "No Woman No Cry". These three songs and a few more have been collected on the album Song For Humanity, which was my other choice for this week.

Both albums are available in all the usual places.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

Those of you who frequent this blog know that I started taking a deep dive into Project 2025. I only made it half way throough because I found it all to fucking depressing, and for a bit there I had hope for the nation.

When Kamala Harris eventually runs for Governor of California I will vote for her. Then we can teach the rest of the nation how it's done. What I have to decide is whether or not I'm going to be voting remotely, through an embassy.

But until then, lat's take a look at my predictions about Project 2025 that are already underway:

Government jobs will be Patronage Jobs: Hell, just look at his cabinet picks. This is already the most corrupt government in history and not a single person has yet to be sworn in.

Changes at the Department of Defense: The nominee for the job has already said he plans to fire any General who supported all attempted to diversify the ranks, from trans, to gays to even people of color and their religion. He even believes that women shouldn't serve in combat - which they've been doing since the days of Bush II. A Republican, you might recall. Also, all Trans personnel are to be kicked out with a dishonorable discharge. This will include a 4-star ADMIRAL .

No Background Checks:  You night not remember this, but early in the section about the Department of State comes a section to have New appointees start their jobs before they are sworn in.and to skip the vetting process altogether.

Intelligence Community: All operations are at the direction/discretion of the President. not the head of the CIA. In appointing a known lapdog this will be easy to implement.

Education: If you look at the State of Florida, you will find that of the roughly 500 college courses about diversity and sensitivity towards other cultures about 95% of them have been cancelled. The letters have already gone out to colleges across the country telling them to get in step with this.

Remember, this has already happened. They're not in office yet.

Good luck out there.

And because I love you, let me put Ice-T and Body Count in your face:

Radio Free California Episode 2447

New music this week from Linkin Park, Greet Death, The Youniverse, Semantica, Blackberry Smoke, Silverlites, Negative, Hana Lili, The Sixsters,  Painted Vein, King Stingray, Du Blonde and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

What are we playing this week? Why the new Linkin Park album, From Zero, of course. Now I was never really a fan of Linkin Park back when Chester Bennington was their lead vocalist. I found the inoffensive and occasionally okay to listen to, but I wasn't really a fan. Yeah, I'm the guy who name-called him in one of my own songs, but I was never really a fan. His death was an unexpected gut punch though.

I like their new singer, Emily Armstrong. She can scream like Chester did but her singing voice is bloody amazing. Her addition to the band has elevated it to a place I really respect. Nothing against Chester - a friend of mine who knew him says he was a wonderful person and I trust their judgement, but Ms. Armstrong is a much better singer. It makes all the difference, and so I'm going to play the new album on this week's show.

New Releases well worth your time include For the Dreams by King Stingray, I'm Sorry I Didn't Bite My Tongue by Instant Crush, Dripping Only Black by Painted Vein, Sniff More Gritty from Du Blonde, and of course I Feel It All At Once by Semantics - which has perhaps the most misleading album art of all time. They do NOT sound like Meatloaf.

All albums are available in all the usual places.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

But because I love you, here's the video for the most recent Linkin Park single:

Radio Free California Episode 2445, radio station notes, and get off your ass and vote

We have new music this week from The Cure, Pixies, Amyl and the Sniffers, Halsey, Danny Elfman, Wishy, Lola Young, Dirty Loops, Bongloard, Lenny Kravitz, Sleater-Kinney, Envy of None, Julia Loagan, SWMRS, Illiterate Light and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

What are we playing this week? Nothing, I'm afraid. We had to cancel the show this week because of technical issues.

Other new releases worth your time are of course the new album from The Cure, but you should hunt down the Deluxe version, which includes a 2nd disc with instrumental versions of all of the songs. This is their best album since the 1990s. Julia Logan, Halsey and SWMRS also have good new albums. Dirty Loops released a new EP which is quite solid and includes a remake of Stevie Wonder's "Living for the City" that is really pretty fly for a bunch of Scandanavian White guys. You should also check out the band Bongloard.

All albums are available in all the usual places.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time. Just not this week.

Radio Free California Episode 2444, radio station notes, Nazis = bad, and more!

New music from The Effigies (Hat tip to Skafish who is also on this playlist), Von Hertzen Brothers, Glay, Flat Party, Palomino Blood, 2nd Grade,  Queen of Jeans, BBBL, Ukraine's The Sixters, Linkin Park and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

Brothers Mikko, Jonne and Kie Von Hertzen originally played in their own individual bands before joining together as a family unit in the tour de force that is the Von Hertzen Brothers in 2000. By the time their 2nd album ‘Approach’ (2006) topped the Finnish chart with its blend of progressive guitar driven rock combined with rich layered vocal harmonies, it was obvious that this band was something unique and special. Von Hertzen Brothers are now on their 9th album, called "In Murmuration" and it's a great album. This is a strong rock and roll album, with songs full of hooks and great performances and singing, and I would like to think that this is the album that breaks them out of Finland and Europe and brings them to the rest of the world. This is the album we will be playing in full this week.

Other new releases worth your time includes "Burning" from the great Chicago punk legends The Effigies. I am saddened to say that this may be their last album, and it was their first in over a decade. Unfortunately their leader was killed in an accident earlier this year. They go out on a high note if this is the case. You should also check out the new album from Queen of Jeans called "All Again", 2nd Grade's "Scheduled Explosions" and of course the new album from Amythyst Kiah called "Still + Bright". All of these albums are available in all the usual places.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

Before we get into cheap shots let me say a few words about the Rally at Madison Square Garden last night. Racist, lying, motherfucking, cocksucking sons of bitch NAZI motherfuckers. If these assholes get put in charge again the country as we know it and have known it for all these years is over and done with. That's not hyperbole. That's not an "alternative" fact. It's the fucking TRUTH.

By the way, the number of people who identify as Puerto Rican is every swing state outnumbers the margin that Biden won by in 2020. Trump and all his supporters and sycophants can go get fucked.

Cheap shots:

Elon, if you want to use that word practice in a mirror. You'll be able to see one then.

Okay, it's a good ad. Somewhere along the line people of my generation (I am the same age a Harris and Walz) stopped being afraid to swear. I'm here for it.

I don't want it to be close. The American People deserve to seem him get his ass kicked.

I'd be willing to bet big money that Trump's people don't even know what twitch is, let alone have the stones to do this.

Ooh ! Ooh! Is it that they're fucking each other?

Not sure how intimidating I'm supposed to find the threat of an IRS audit when the person they are praising wants to defund the IRS.

That was actually pretty quick, wasn't it Leon?

Yes, they really are talking about deporting US Citizens.

Can we at long last, finally, please, cancel fucking Doctor Phil?

One thing I notice about all these newspapers who aren't endorsing anyone for President is that all of them, without exception, have not received one-on-one interviews with VP Harris.

Hey Evangelicals, pay attention!

Yes, there is cheating going on already. It's all Right-wingers and Nazis though, not Democrats. Same as always.

And because I love you, have some Aaron Lee Tasjan:

And an extra for you. I am loathe to put up videos by The Lincoln Project because these are only temporary allies. This is a Republican group and for the most part they approved and voted for the policies of Republican administrations. But this is a powerful ad, I must admit.

Radio Free California Episode 2443, radio station notes, cheap shots and more!

New music this week from Swansea Sound, The Belair Lip Bonbs, Nicolay, Sleater-Kinney, Lot's Wife, Kylie Minogue,  MC5, Jerry Cantrell, Garfunkel & Garfunkel, Fantastic Negrito, David Gilmour with his daughter Romany and Alt-J, CATBEAR and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

In 1999 the band American Football released their first album, and promptly broke up afterwards. But that first album was a great album, and little by little it caught on to people who get into this sort of thing, including me. The band got back together in 2014 and have been working steadily ever since, and have just released a 25th anniversary edition of the album featuring another 10 tracks. But we're not going to play that album.

You see, at the same time as this was issued comes a 2nd album that is full of covers of the material from the original release of the first album, all done by other bands that are fans of that album. Simply called "American Football (covers)" this features versions by Iron & Wine, Yvette Young, Manchester Orchestra and others - a different artist for each of the 9 songs. We're going to play that album on this week's album show.

Other new releases worth checking out are Tension II from Kylie Minogue, Jerry Cantrell's I Want Blood, Lush Life from The Belair Lip Bombs, The Mighty Several from Paul Heaton, and of course Heavy Lifting from protest power band MC5. These albums plus the Anerican Football albums are available wherever you usually get your music.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

In doing a quick analysis of the 10s of people who come to this site I have come to realize that more people come for the Cheap Shots than for anything else. So...

Cheap shots:

Elon Musk is a ratfucker.

What the fuckin' fuck have they been drinking?

Um, Elon, this is a felony. A Decades in prison type of felony.

Would people please stop telling him how to do this? He's not very bright - don't help.

Trump working the Drive Thru? Didn't happen. Fake News.

Given that the place was closed for the day I hope that the employees drafted into this stunt got paid.

No. No he's not.

I am often amazed at how much Mansplaining Mike Johnson does of himself.

Because of where I live, I voted for The Enemy Within.

I don't even think the Supremes can call this an official act of office.

The religious organization (IRS Approved) that opened the "Samuel Alito's Mom's Satanic Abortion Clinic" has opened up a second location.

Maybe this is why the Secret Service has managed to "allow" more than one person to get a clean shot at him.

Ah, the punchline.

Yes. Yes he can.

"I'm one of those lousy immigrants."

At some point they're going to move away from brown-skinned people and go after darker hues.

Radio Free California Episode 2442, radio station notes, and more!

New music this week from The Linda Lindas, Pale Waves, Dea Matrona, The Cure, Desperate Jouirnalist, Office Dog, Francis of Delirium, The Criticals, Maaya Sakamoto, A Short Walk to Pluto, Tank and the Bangas and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

There are a lot of good new albums out this week, and that's actually kind of a shame, because I made a promise that I would play the full album by The Linda Lindas once it came out. Guess what? The full album, called "No Obligation" is now out. Let's face it, the rise of The Linda Lindas is kind of incredible: they went viral for playing their punk anthem "Racist, Sexist Boy" at a Los Angeles Public Library during the worst days of the Pandemic and before all of them had finished JUNIOR HIGH they had a record deal. The new album is their second full-length album and the songcraft has just improved at a near-geometric rate, and their live shows are all showstoppers. There are a LOT of potential hits on this album, and I'm going to play all 12 songs from it for you this week on the album show.

But as I said, there are a lot of other good albums out this week, and any of them could have made the cut if The Linda Lindas weren't already occupying the top spot. This includes Smitten by Pale Wolves, The EP Sadolescence by Indoor Foxes, No Hero from Desperate Journalist, Lighthouse from Francis of Delirium, For Your Sins by Dea Matrona, No Small Parts by Sweet Loretta, The Heart, The Mind, The Soul from Tank and the Bangas, and if you're really adventurous you should try out Goat, by Goat. I've linked to Spotify but all of these albums including the Linda Lindas one are available at all the usual places.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

RFC 2442

For those of you who stay away from Spotify the current week's additions will be played on Wednesdays. This is a change from prior programming: what we're going to do going forward is just play the music added this week only. Every other day will be the usual rotation, but we set aside Wednesdays for just the new additions for the week. This week that's 51 songs which we will play in the same order that they're in on the Spotify playlist of the same name up at the top of this post. So if you tune in at just about any time on Wednesday you will hear the whole playlist.

10 at 10

One last programming note: Every Saturday at 10pm and again on Sunday at 10am and 10pm we will feature our show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11 or even 12!) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST. Last week I played a group of songs from 1976, and this week we're going to pick another year we haven't gone to yet - a year just a bit more recent.

No cheap shots this week. You have no idea how busy I've been with secret project I will talk about much later.

But becaue I love you, here's the video for "Glasgow" by Pale Waves.

Radio Free California Episode 2441, radio station notes, cheap shots and The Linda Lindas!

Welcome to the fall season of new releases! New music this week from The Iddy-Biddies, Melt, Dawes, Jake Bugg, Billie Eilish, Joan Armatrading, Lake Street Drive, Tears For Fears, Dirty Loops, tricot,  Gary Marx with Miles Hunt and so much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

For the uniniated Jake Bugg might have seemed to come from nowhere with his sixth album, "A Modern Day Distraction", but in fact he has been on w whirlwind rise going back over a decade. He leaped on the UK stage by sending a song called "Lightning Bolt" to the BBC as part of an unsigned bands and soon found himslef playing Glastonbury - even before he was signed. He is actually a well-know star in his native England and has toured with the likes of Lana Del Rey and many others. This is his second album for RCA, and it's a solid rock/pop album that I think you'll like as much as I do. We will be playing "A Modern Day Distraction" as this week's selection on The Album Show.

Other new albums this week well worth your time include Do You Know from The Iddie-Biddies, If There's A Heaven from Melt, and No Way To Relax When You Are On Fire from Dora Jar. I also have to recommend the soundtrack to the Apple TV+ show Bad Monkey, which is made up of nothing but Tom Petty covers and includes efforts from 28 different artists. Also I hear Coldplay has a new album out, but I found it kind of dull. What's not dull is the new album from Nice Biscuit called "SOS". Finally, if you weren't already aware, Billie Eilish's new one, Hit Me Hard and Soft is really quite good. All of these albums are available wherever you get your music.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

Cheap Shots:

"It's not the 1950's anymore."

It hasn't hit yet and DeSantia is already looking for ways to blame FEMA for "Flying Missiles".

Lockjaw's coming Lockjaw's coming...

Woah. Seriously, Woah. The entire British Pathe archive. Online.

This is quite literally what racism is. He is a fucking racist. Full stop.

The Supremes say (without saying) that's it's okay to be a He Man Woman Hater.

Oh noes! She might brainwash the womens!

Don't worry, it's the fucking New York Times. I'm sure they'll be back on your side shortly.

Somebody just might be a Masochist.

Oh yeah, we should shove something down your throat you racist fuck.

It would seem that Billy Graham's kid is a dick.

I've read Project 2025 and men, this is true: They're coming for the porn.

Radio Free California Episode 2440, radio station notes, cheap shots and more!

New music this week from Pearl Jam, The Cure, Dubinski, BAND-MAID, Stevie Nicks, Serj Tankian, Sunday (1984), Alisa Xayalith, Terrorvision, Sunflower Bean, Of All Things and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

Of All Things is a band from Norway that formed in 2020, just as everything went to hell. As a result this, their first album called "Falling In Line With The Person In Front Of You" is only out now and it's a solid alt-rock album. If you want to read a review of the album that's in English you can click here, but for my money this is a great band and I hope they go far. We will play the entire 11-track album on this week's Album Show.

Other solid releases this week include Mediocre's "Growth Eater" (a short but very solid album), "Playlist of Doom" by Robert DeLong, The self-titles debut album by Sunday (1994), "We Are Not Robots" from Terrorvision, and of course "Epic Narratives", the 8th full-length studio album from BAND-MAID.All albums are available wherever you get your music, including the one from Of All Things.

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

Cheap shots:

Terrorists are gonna terror. What, you thought I was going to link to something about Israel/Hamas?

Perhaps the real issue here is that you're a fucking idiot?

"Barnstorming" doesn't mean that you destroy the barn.

I don't think this is how you court the Union vote.

You know, I think the title of "Most Republican Kennedy" doesn't belong to Schwarzenegger anymore.

For the record, no Republican has ever been good for the Economy.

How about "Lock HIM up!" instead? I mean, he's the convicted felon.

Helene, Helene, Helene, Helene. Please, don't flood my town away (with apologies to Dolly Parton).

I for one am glad that the most consequential former President of this country will vote this election.

I was never a fan of his music, but I am a fan of the man. Oh, and don't miss the comments by the Man in Black at the end.

Have I ever told you how much I've come to like my Governor?

Someone stage an intervention for this sick fuck.

And this sick fuck to a nursing home.

Someone did the required reading.

New music this week from Haircut 100! Sub-Radio! Suzanne Vega! Plus worlds greatest dad, Kate Pierson, Dive Time, Body Count, Dropkick Murphys, Ist Ist, Jules Ahoi, Torus, Jaz Karis, Honeyglaze, Tetrarch (my favorite Drop D band), Dive Time and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

The sophomore album by worlds greatest dad is 13 tracks of alt-rock That they just describe as "we play what we like and hope you like it to". The album is called Better Luck Next Time and it shows growth and playfulness and this might be the album that helps them break big. I've added several songs from this album to the rotation and I'm also going to feature the album as my selection for The Album Show. It's out now and available at all the usual places.

Also out this week is the self-titles album by Drive Time, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers' new album called "I Love You Too", Charlotte Wessels' new release "The Obsession", and of course the new solo album from Kate Pierson of the B-52's called "Radios & Rainbows". which is not to be consufes with the new album by Katy J Pearson called "Someday, Now".

Cheap shots:

Nope. No cheap shots this week. for one thing, the mainstream media is finally starting to notice just how insane things have become, and also I have proof the Univers has a sense of humor. I've just turned 60 years old.

Coming from the very end of the generation that coined the phrase "Don't trust anyone over 30", starting my 7th decade on this strange blue marble is the ultimate jest.

Next goal, live to be the oldest person in my family ever. I've got 45 years to get there.

And because I love you, here is Jordan Ruduss taking one of the world's easiest piano pieces and giving it a serious makeover:

Radio Free California Episode 2438, radio station notes, cheap shots and more!

New music this week from Porches, The Linda Lindas, chokecherry, Thirteen Stones, Same Side, BBBL, Future Islands, Chris Reed and the Anime Raiders,  Binoy, Coast Arcade, The Jesus Lizard, LL Cool J with Eminem and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

Thirteen Senses is a band from Cornwall, England, that had a minor hit in the mid 2000's with a song called "Into the Fire", which got featured on a number of TV shows in the US back in the day. They're a pretty straight-ahead alt-pop band but they're swinging for the fences with their first album in 10 years, "The Bound and the Infinite". The first track on the album is 11 1/2 minutes long but is still an al-pop song, while the rest of the album features songs of more traditional lengths and sgtructures. I was sorely tempted to add that long song to the radio station rotation. Instead, I'm going to feature the album as my selection for The Album Show.

Also out this week are new albums from Porches ("Shirt"), Starflyer59, ("Lust for Gold"), Binoy ("The Great Alone", which nearly became my pick for the show, BBBL's new album "first contact" which already has multiple singles playing at Radio California, Same Side's "Oh No" is also worth your time, as it the new live album from Theo Katzman called "Live From the Other Side".

The Album Show plays on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

Cheap shots:

Maybe it was the concept of a shooting.

Speaking of melted Bratz dolls, who's cock is she sucking these days? Just askin'.

"That Krakatau of volcanic, incoherent, fact-free bombast."

Moderate my ass.

Maybe you're just a lyin' sunbitch that got caught, and it's freaking you out.

Can we at least agree that some people just shouldn't own a gun?

Love the enthusiasm, but please don't count chickens before they hatch.

Someone's not taking their ass-kicking very well.

Proof that the half-melted Bratz doll at his side is only the latest in the wierd here.

Or, and hear me out here, you can try to pass laws that help you win after you've already lost.

And because I love you, LL Cool J (with Eminem) reminds us all just how good he is:
