Radio Free California Episode 2413, radio station notes about a very indie week, cheap shots, my new video and more!

A very indie list this week, with new music from Mourn, Smack Champion, Slow Fiction, Punchlove, Cloud Nothings,  Hollow Head, The Veronicas, Andy Partridge (and friends) and much more. Enjoy!

ROTATING OUT: SONGS LEAVING RADIO FREE CALIFORNIA

This means the music that is aging out is from Radio Free California Episode 2313. This includes music from Fall Out Boy, Mammoth WVH, NIckel Creek, Depeche Mode, Thunderpussy, The Regrettes, Morgan and the Organ Donors, Darren Jessee and much more.

We celebrate these songs with a new show that will play on Saturdays at 11am and again at 5pm PST. We will say goodbye to the songs that are now a year on the playlist with one last broadcast, which will be repeated a couple of times during the day.

You can of course still listen to this music - my playlists are still on spotify and you can find them here. They're all searchable as well.

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

Mourn is a band from Spain that began as a collaboration between guitarists/vocalists Jazz Rodríguez Bueno and Carla Pérez Vas, a pair of teenage friends from El Maresme, Catalonia. When they met at school, their shared fondness for '90s indie rock led them to make music together. The pair uploaded videos of their bracing acoustic songs online. They recruited drummer Antonio Postius and bassist Leia Rodríguez (who was just 15 when she joined) and started recording albums. Their 5th, "The Avoider", is out this week and will be the featured release on this week's Album Show.

The Album Show will run this Thursday March 28th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

RFC 2413

For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday March 27th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST. All of the songs I feature on Radio Free California are played as part of the regular rotation. .If you want to hear the songs we've added to the station this week you can use the Spotify playlist above or you can listen to this show.

10 at 10

One last programming note: Every Sunday at 10am and again at 10pm we will feature our show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11 or even 12!) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST. Last week we featured a selection of songs from 2002 and for next Sunday's show we're going to feature a small selection of songs from.. well you'll have to tune in to find out! We also run the show at a "secret" time on Saturdays.

As always, you can go to https://global.citrus3.com:2020/public/radiofreecalifornia to listen to the station, and there is an imbed below. And did you know the station is available as an app? It's only for Google Play (sorry iphone users - Apples terms and conditions were too restrictive for me) but you can listen on your phone at your convenience too.

Cheap shots:

Believe it or not Senator, I think you'd be welcome on our side of the isle. But given the state you represent, going Indie is probably for the best.

So suddenly he's less liable for all his criming? Appeal this horseshit ruling.

Disecting the "what if".

To be honest, I had never heard of the Social Media site "Elk" before today.

Fuck yes I'm better off now than I was 4 years ago.

A new reason that April 15th this year will be more interesting than usual.

While the idea of a summit is a big fucking deal, what I glean from this article is that the next leader of North Korea might be a woman.

He gets a stay of execution and then promptly lies about it. The appelate court should revoke the stay.

Well that was... something.

This was 3 times funnier yesterday.

Yeah, like anyone under the age of 15 doesn't know what a VPN is

He's unlikely to win, but the story is fascinating just the same.

You think you've ever had remodelling and/or building delays? Try this for size.

Oh please. This video was shot in 4 minutes on an iphone.

If you've listened to any of his podcasts you'll know what I mean, but Olbermann finally got his wish.

And because I love you, have a first look at the video that I am officially releasing tomorrow for my version of "I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass":

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

This week's album show will feature the new album by The Hanging Stars called "On a Golden Shore". You can read their bio on Spotify - it reads like it was done by a marketing department, although I do admit I can hear a pretty heavy Byrds element to their stuff.

This means the music that is aging out is from Radio Free California Episode 2311. This includes music from legends like Yes, Peter Gabriel, Fishbone and Depeche Mode, plus great bands like Your Heart Bleeds, Theo Katzman, Blondshell, Christine and the Queens, Beach Fossils and much more.

We celebrate these songs with a new show that will play on Saturdays at 11am and again at 5pm PST. We will say goodbye to the songs that are now a year on the playlist with one last broadcast, which will be repeated a couple of times during the day.

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

This week's album show will feature the new album by Meatbodies called "Flora Ocean Tiber Bloom". You can read their bio on Spotify - it reads like it was done by a marketing department. To me they sound like a cross between early Smashing Pumpkins with a touch of Collective Soul and Soul Asylum. It's pretty good stuff and we'll play the whole album this week on the Album Show.

The Album Show will run this Thursday March 14th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

But because I love you, have a guitar lesson from one of the best rhythm guitarists out there:

ROTATING OUT: SONGS LEAVING RADIO FREE CALIFORNIA

This means the music that is aging out is from Radio Free California Episode 2310. This includes music from Extreme, The Church, Metallica, Dream Club, The The, Your Favorite band's Favorite Band, Magaziine,  The Dandy Warhols, The National, Haken and more.

Royel Otis is a properly snarky band. Their Spotify bio reads, "In the lyrical justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: The Royel, who investigate rhyme, and Otis, who prosecutes the offenders. These are their stories.". They have a new album called Pratts & Pain and it's a solid effort, but I discovered them thanks to their new single "Murder on the Dancefloor", which IS NOT ON THE ALBUM. So I've decided to have a little fun with it. We're going to play the new album, PLUS the single on this week's show.

The Album Show will run this Thursday March 7th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

RFC 2410

For those of you who stay away from Spotify this playlist will be played this Wednesday March 6th at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST. Cheap Shots:

Apparently we have Schrodenger's Constitution now.

Someone make certain Steve Kornacki is all lubed up. Or Caffeene, or whatever.

What a schmuck and schmendrick this guy turned out to be.

No, not him, the other one.

How about instead of "too old for office" how about "too far along with Alzheimer's"?

Has there ever been a case when a White guy compares someone to Martin Luther King Jr. that wasn't cringeworthy?

I wonder if "I lost on purpose!" is going to ber how he explains all of these lawsuits/court cases he keeps losing.

I know it's petty, and I own up to it, but since when is this woman a blond?

That’s a Republican idea of a win-win: taking credit for something while doing nothing.

Yeah, because fucking Texas has shown such great respect for Federal Law and SCOTUS.

And because I love you, here's a fun little look at hos the Vulfmon song on this week's playlist got made.
