We celebrate these songs with a new show that will play on Saturdays at 11am and again at 5pm PST. We will say goodbye to the songs that are now a year on the playlist with one last broadcast, which will be repeated a couple of times during the day.

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

For their third full studio album Australian band Middle Kids decided to bring in Jonathan Gilmore (The 1975) to co-produce the album and have crafted a pop/rock treasure full of catchy hooks and singable songs. Although it's been only 3 years since they won best Rock album at the ARIA awards they knew they would have to go big this time, and thay have done just that. It's a quick and catchy batch of 13 songs and we're going to feature this new album, "Faith Crisis Pt 1" on this week's album show.

One thing before I get to insulting people: now that the trial is underway I will not be commenting on the election interference (it's not about paying off a porn star - it's about doing what he accuses his enimies of doing) trial underway in New York. You all know the one I'm talking about. I am a firm believer that because I am not in the courtroom myself I cannot under any stretch accurately comment on anything happening in there. This is a lesson I've learned the hard way. 

I will comment once there is a verdict. This is the line I won't cross: I'll insult and make fun of just about anyone, including myself, but I'm not in the courtroom. Do I have opinions? Yes. Could I make comments like I do with everything below? Yes. Do I stand even the most remote chance of swaying a juror with my blog with its tens of readers? Nope.

Even so, this matters to me. Every thing that happens outside the courtroom I may comment on, and I have real opinions about whether or not the gag order has been violated (it has) and if he should be punished (lock him up), but that's not the trial itself.

I do find it interesting though (and just a touch psychotic) that in the same breath the defendant will say he's immune from prosecution because he has full immunity and proclaim that another person who would have the same immunity by his logic is breaking the law by having him tried.

I kinda feel bad that the man's name makes me snigger like a 12 year-old boy, but the headlines really do write themselves. (Note: making fun of a terrible person's name - not commenting on the trial).

I have known for weeks now that English Teacher finally released their new album that I'd feature it, but they have some real competition this week, including Morgan Harper-Jones' new album "Up to the Glass", Maggie Rogers' "Don't Forget Me", Sikane's "We Belong" and damn it there's a new album from Mark Knopfler too!.  But English Teacher's album "This Could Be Texas" (thier first full-length album after a ton of singles and a couple of EPs) is a near masterpiece and you should hear it from start to finish. This is one of England's most exciting new bands in a long long time and they cover topics that only the young, brave, and unfairly stereotyped could do.

However! This week we are adding an extra song that is not available on Spotify or practically anywhere else for that matter. It's a live recording of Joni Mitchell performing "I'm Still Standing", originally released by Elton John and co-written by Bernie Taupin. LIke last week's Jacob Collier addition, the performance is so good that I have to add it to the rotation. I seriously doubt it will be released as a single and she changed up the song considerably, turning into a slow-burn jazz number. It was part of the Gerishwin Honors and is a one off, although you can find bootleg performances on YouTube. I took the best one of those I could find and remastered it for you, my listeners at Radio Free California.

The Sixsters is a Ukrainian rock band established in 2018 by Kateryna Kuziakina in a small town near Kyiv, Ukraine. Over a period of four years, the band participated in the Ukrainian rock scene. The band's name, The Sixsters, is a testament to the close bond shared among the five members. In 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine significantly impacted the band members' lives. Some members left the country early on, while others sought refuge in bomb shelters amidst the conflict. The band members found themselves dispersed across different countries. Now the members of The Sixsters managed to reunite in Essen, Germany, and have a new album out called "To Be Continued..." and we will play the entire album start to finish on this week's Album Show.

The Album Show will run this Thursday Aptil 11th at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

Emily Wolfe is a singer/songwriter/guitarist from Austin TX who has just put out her third album, "The Blowback". She might jsut be poised for a big breakthrough, having opened for a number of the greats of classic rock over the past few years, from The Pretenders to Heart to The Strutts to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. To me she sounds like one hit single away from entering the lext level in this business, and I think that single is on this album - but I don't know which song so I'm going to play the full album for you. "The Blowback" is out this week at all the usual places and will be the featured release on this week's Album Show.
