Radio Free California Episode 2426 (plus an extra), radio station notes, cheap shots and more!

New music this week from Lake Street Dive, Willow, Oceanator, Mr. Big, Lola Young, junodream, Idaho, increment, Smack Champion and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

I have been promising to play Lola Young's new album when it finally is released and it is out now. But this past week's releases really threw me a curveball. Lake Street Dive's new album also dropped last week and I've been promising that one as well. And the new album from junodream is just bloody fantastic. And thanks to Rick Beato's YouTube channel, I got clued in to an album I would have normally passed on, the new release from Willow which is shockingly good. I mean, she's only 23 years old! So what do I do now?

Devise a Special schedule is what I do now. So for this week only we are doing it a bit differently. The times are still Pacific Standard on Thursday the 27th, but the plays are like this:

8am and 8pm - Lake Street Dive's new album "Good Together"
9am and 9pm (the usual time) - Lola Young's new album "This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway"
10am and 10pm - Willow's new album "empathogen"
11am and 11pm - junodream's new album "Pools of Colour"

12 noon and Midnight - a Gin and Tonic for getting through all that. The Album Show will return to it's regular slot on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

RFC 2426

For those of you who stay away from Spotify the current week's playlist will be played on Wednesdays at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm PST, DJ'd by yours truly. All of the songs I feature on Radio Free California are played as part of the regular rotation. .If you want to hear the songs we've added to the station this week you can use the Spotify playlist above or you can listen to this show.

With one exception!!!

There is a track on the radio station that is an a cappella version of Earth Wind and Fire's "After the Love is Gone" performed by the four-piece group Kings Return. They put it on Youtube for this year's Juneteenth, and it's so amazing that I just had to add it. The video of their performance is below.

One last programming note: Every Saturday at 10pm and again on Sunday at 10am and 10pm we will feature our show "10 at 10", where we play 10 (and sometimes 11 or even 12!) songs from a year we pick at random. Again, all times are PST. Last week we featured a selection of songs from 1974 and for next Sunday's show we're going to feature a small selection of songs from... well you'll have to tune in to find out! We also run the show at a "secret" time on Saturdays.

As always, you can go to https://global.citrus3.com:2020/public/radiofreecalifornia to listen to the station, and there is an imbed below. And did you know the station is available as an app? It's only for Google Play (sorry iphone users - Apples terms and conditions were too restrictive for me) but you can listen on your phone at your convenience too.

Cheap shots:

Once a Nazi, always a Nazi.

They finally got something right, although it took to goddamned long.

“The worst is your hair. I have this beautiful, luxuriant hair… They put on restricters where there’s so much water you don’t know what to do with it. It’s called rain.” It's called Alheimers.

Here's hoping The Force is still with him.

At this point I'm expecting a rubber vs. glue taunt from the GOP.

Um, how does he know that it's a shot in the ass?

LGBTQ Fuck you.

One or the other, please gentlemen.

Once a Nazi, always a Nazi.

Special - not tragic.

I'm an athiest and I know the bible better than this fool.

The case kinda goes out with a whimper, doesn't it?

And because I love you, here's that video I promised you above:

Radio Free California Episode 2425, radio station notes, cheap shots and more!

New music this week from Oceanator, Wishy, NOAPOLOGY, swim school, Ainsley Costello, Swim Deep, Bilial (and friends), Moby, Illuminati Hotties and much more. Enjoy!

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

Swim Deep's new album, "There's a Big Star Outside", is a self-admitted change in direction for the band. During the 5 years since their last full-length album the members of the band have undergone some personal upheavals and changes in their lives that are reflected in a more introspective approach to the music. There have also been a couple of membership changes and I think that's been an influence as well. This Birmingham (England) band is pretty big in their home country, and I think they are poised for bigger and brighter things - especially as the music has become more heartfelt. I think you'll like this album and it's my selection for this week's Album Show.

The Album Show will runs on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

Gloves are now off!

The man is simply incapable of surrounding himself with good people.

I really hope that Biden has reinstated the healthcare infrastructure, not just vaccines, that his predecessor dismantled. Here's why.

So you're saying that women on the right don't have permission to read an article about women on the right?

This is why you don't defund the IRS.

For the record, I think we can all be safe in saying that there isn't a Republican currently running for office that MLK Jr. would endorse.

Should we care who Jack Black backs?

And because I love you, here's the new single from Lake Street Drive, which will be added to the station next week:

ROTATING OUT: SONGS LEAVING RADIO FREE CALIFORNIA

This means the music that is aging out is from Radio Free California Episode 2324. This includes music from Dua Lipa, Ukraine's Death Pill, Dream Wife, Greta Van Fleet, Extreme, Leo, Death Valley Girls, Envy of None (featuring Alex Lifeson of Rush), Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, King Krule, Death Valley Girls and much more.

We celebrate these songs with a new show that will play on Saturdays at 11am and again at 5pm PST. We will say goodbye to the songs that are now a year on the playlist with one last broadcast, which will be repeated a couple of times during the day.

You can of course still listen to this music - my playlists are still on spotify and you can find them here. They're all searchable as well.

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

Back in 2015 the band Bodega Bay recorded an album called "Our Brand Could Be Your Life", a collection of catchy indie-rock ruminations on the slow-creep of corporate-think into youth culture. Outside of a few people in New York City, no one ever really heard the album although live tracks were performed from time to time. It's now 9 years later and the band (now known as simply "Bodega") have returned to the album, re-recorded it and unleashed it upon the public. It's pretty reminiscent of music released in the early to mid-1990's, like upgrading a low-fi album and producing it as if they were The Pixies. It's a good album and is this week's feature.

The Album Show will runs on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

We're going to do a theme-based show this time and the theme is... well you'll have to tune in to find out! We also run the show at a "secret" time on Saturdays.

You cannot call yourself a Christian and support Trump. You just can't. Now I'm not a Christian myself but my mom was a Sunday School teacher so I did pick up a few things, and there are some things you just don't do.

On Sunday Trump held one of his rallies in one of those crazy mega-churches that seem to be more about making the pastor rich than anything else (but what do I know?) and managed to start up and bask in a chant from the congregation of "Bullshit! Bullshit! Bullshit!"

You know, if memory serves that one of things you just don't do; curse in church. And certainly not when people have brought their children to the service. Not if you're a person who claims to share the faith of the people you're trying to lead, and certainly not if you are a congregant of that same church. I may make fun of people for religious belief, but even I know you don't chant "Bullshit!" in a church - not even an empty one.

So why do so many Christians (the actor who plays Jack Reacher on HBO excepted) follow this man, make excuses for this man, say that he's heaven sent?

I seem to recall that as of late God sends tests, not saviours.

The only conclusion I can reach is that these people either were led or purposely stepped off of their own path, and are so far removed from it that if their actual paht/teaching/scripture should appear in front of them they wouldn't recognize it.

According to your own scripture, you're all going to hell. If you call yourself a Christian and a Trump supporter, the sad thruth is that you are not a Christian. You're a Fascist.

And never once has a Fascist gone to Heaven.

As for Trump? If he's anything worth notice at all he's the Golden Calf. I mean, Gold letters on his buildings, Gold hair, Gold bronzed skin, Gold drapes, Gold Furniture... How many fucking hints did you need?

Cheap shots:

Believe it or not, this man was a Colonel in the military. JAG corps, to be specific.

Speaking pseudonymonusly, I'm sure.

This is fine, I'm sure.

Thing is, this isn't illegal. We should really only be discussing his crimes.

How about no?

I think the biggest surprise about this whole thing is the fact that he was surprised by the comments.

Anyone who has a problem with Ms Rachel should be pitied. Obviously a horse has kicked them in the head. Or should do so.

This could have been avoided if it wasn't for the Modern Republican Party being such snowflakes.

Remember, remember, July 4th 2017.

How common is it to meet your Probation Officer over Zoom?

What kind of fuck-up would this be? EPIC.

The only thing shocking to me about this is that the number of Black Americans who believe this is this low.

Force Ghost Annikan to Asohka: Incorrect!

Says the man with an obvious Adderall addiction.

It's worth pointing out that SIX of the Supreme Court Justices are Catholic. With one more leaning that way.

I'm sure they can be green screened in later.

We can haz peace?

I pray I never meet Alex Jones. Because I'm probably going to punch him in his motherfucking throat.

Again, Force Ghost Annikan to Asohka: Incorrect!

But... but... but... they didn't call his laptop!

And because I love you, here is the video for the new Atarashii Gakkou song, which is without a doubt one of their funnier ones:

ROTATING OUT: SONGS LEAVING RADIO FREE CALIFORNIA

This means the music that is aging out is from Radio Free California Episode 2323. This includes music from Foo Fighters, The Alarm, Cowboy Junkies, Extreme, lovelytheband, Comet Gain, Sakamato Maaya, Motion Sickness, Rancid and much much more.

ALBUM SHOW NOTES

I only discovered the band "Another Michael" this past week and I've fallen in love with their catalog. I actually added a song from their previous album to the playlist because it's just too good to ignore. Their new album, "Pick Me Up, Turn Me Upside Down", is 12 songs of solid power pop, and is meant as a compliment to their previous album, "Wishes To Fulfil" which is why I felt no issue with including the song "Guitars" from that album. They're well worth checking out and you will get the cahnce to hear the full album this week.

The Album Show will runs on Thursdays at 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time.

Something I want to say before we continue: Donald J Trump is not a first time offender. He's a first time felon. It's worth pointing out that he, his children, and his companies have been charged with crimes many times and in almost every case he has been found guilty. He has paid millions in fines, is currently liable for hundreds of millions more in fines, and is presently not allowed to do business in several states, and is not allowed to run charities or schools in any form. A lot of that is civil but it's still crimes. The big difference is that now he's been convicted of felonies and for the first time may be facing prison.

He's been a criminal for decades.

Yes, I've met him, once, for lunch, way back in the early 90's. My exact quote to my co-workers after that meeting? "I wouldn't trust that man with a penny I found on the sidewalk."

Cheap shots:

Lady B2B2 is even stupider than you can imagine.

And he keeps right on committing crimes.

4 years ago today even I joined in a Black Lives Matter march.

I'd rather him go to jail, but I would laugh at this. Especially thousands of hours of it.

Again, FUCK Texas.

Alas, it doesn't mean we can have him turned into a pool of goo.

What is the Hebrew word for Escalation? What is the Arabic?

The Grandchild of immigrants becomes President. Of Mexico.

Hmmm.... Someone might get Left Behind.
