New music this week from The Big Moon, Little Quirks, San Francisco natives Aluminum, Neomi, Stephen Day, Editors, Steven Wilson, the ever-more-political Bryan Adams. Prince, Bess Atwell, (Scary) Pockets, Father John Misty, Brass Against, Erasure, Everything But the Girl and much more. Enjoy!

Why didn't anyone tell me about Brass Against? Their smokin' remake of Alice in Chains "Them Bones" fucking rocks. So I dug into their catalog and holy crap these guys are good. I've posted their video for their version of Tool's Lateralus below, which is a knockout.
The new album from Editors, "Surface, Echo & Sound" is as solid a pop/alt/rock album as you can get these days. I find them actually fairly similar to a laid-back Bob Mould, and that's a good thing. They're worth your time.
Néomí is one of the current generation of what is often referred to as "bedroom pop" and while I'm personally not fond of the term her latest release, "Crunchy, Sad and Strangely Happy", will only reinforce the title. It's a good album and it's nice to hear a singer who isn't relying on reverb and breathiness to enhance their sound. She's a singer in the purest form, and the album aptly reflects this.
Stephen Day's self-titled new album is a startlingly upbeat and poppy album, full of hooks and catchy themes and melodies that you might think you're hearing a mid-1980's Hall and Oates. The comparison is a bit of a disservice though, because this album is firmly rooted in the present day and is a fun listen.
Now I have to tell you about hometown favorites Aluminum. Their second full-length album is called "Iconoclast HaHa" and if you give them a listen you'll hear why they're filling the local clubs in the Bay Area. They're the latest local band to start making their way higher up the ladder, and have given us an album so polished, tight and fun that you'll be amazed that it only took a week to record. Give them a listen, they deserve it.
I'm actually kind of glad that Leonid and Friends have moved away from just Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire covers. The lone woman in the group, Ksenia Buzina, has one hell of a voice and it's nice to hear her singing lead.
Someone is desperately trying to turn Kid Moon into a star. He has guested on dozens of albums now and his plaintive, almost crying voice can be found just about anywhere these days. But if you take him as a solo artist I think he has something to offer.
New music from Erasure and Everything But The Girl makes me think that there might be a serious synthwave revival in our future.
Finally, Melt has re-released their 2024 album "If There's A Heaven" with 8 additional tracks, and quite frankly some of it is better than anything on the original album, and I think the original release is very good. Just listen to the song "Find Somebody", which I've added to the playlist. you can see what I mean.

If you haven't done so yet, VOTE. You have until the polls close on November 3rd.
I have to wonder what the ever loving fuck is going through the head of Haley Stevens. I hope that her MAGA-leaning fiancé is worth it for her. I really do, no snark. I say that because she's obviously finished in politics.
The Secretary of Agriculture is a fucking racist. Pass it on.
Why is JD Vance so concerned about the Somali community in Ohio? He's never lived there and I'm pretty sure he hasn't even visited. I'm guessing that one of them turned him down when asked for a date. Although having "Cocaine Don" (aka Don Jr.) accuse someone of having a substance abuse problem is the height of comedy.
And then Cocaine Don shows himself to be so high that he forgets that Ohio is a state.
As an aside, let's all hope for a speedy and complete recovery for Senator Chris Murphy.
Stephen Miller attempted to look slightly human regarding the sudden snd shocking passing of Patrick Stewart, only to be shut down by Wil Wheaton is glorious fashion. Don't shut up Westley!!
If Republicans honestly thought their policies worked they'd be making it easier to vote, not harder.
Some Republicans are saying that if this election is an overwhelming win for the Democratic Party that this might finally allow them to break from the Crime Administration's leader. Bullshit. You could have done that at any time if you had a spine. It's like a smoker telling you that they can quit anytime they choose to. No, they can't.
If the knives are out for Whiskey Pete Hegsbreath can someone please complete the metaphor and stab him already?
And in all deference to the man, him not knowing the difference between North and South Vietnam is understandable. After all, he didn't go when called.
One more thing from the man in question; apparently his closing message for the midterms is to threaten to rename the Reflecting Pool.
Did I say that you need to Vote? I did? Well, I'm saying it again. VOTE, while there's still time.
To me the greatest victory we can all experience is that the Sentencing hearing for that man who was convicted on 34 counts in a New York courtroom, which was suspended and not thrown out, resumes on January 21 2028 and the man is put in prison.
