Radio Free California Episode 2313, quoting a hero, and cheap shots.

New music this week from Fall Out Boy, Mammoth WVH, Nickel Creek, Depeche Mode, Thunderpussy, The Regrettes, Morgan and the Organ Donors, Darren Jessee and much more. Enjoy!

No podcast this week - too much happening in my personal life. More on that later.

If you want to find information about any of the artists in this week's playlist just click on the artist and scroll down to their bio in Spotify. If you click on that you will most likely be led to website and socials for each artist.

A couple of notes: I'm not a fan of Fall Out Boy and was surprised to find two songs on their new album that I liked. I always listen just in case something like this happens. I find FOB kind of gimmicky but they sometimes the gimmick works. The Depeche Mode album is pretty good - at least better then their last couple of albums. And the Nickel Creek album is full of surprises and is well worth the time.

Enjoy!

++++++++++++++++++++

Hero of the week: Nebraska State Senator Megan Hunt:

"Don't say hi to me in the hall, don't ask me how my weekend was, don't walk by my desk and ask me anything. Don't send me Christmas cards ― take me off the list," Hunt warned. "No one in the world holds a grudge like me, and no one in the world cares less about being petty than me. I don't care. I don't like you."

+++++++++++++++++++

Cheap shots:

You can sing gay.

Reset the fucking clock.

He's going to order them all to commit suicide with him someday. He's not Moses, he's Jim Jomes.

Are there enough people left for this to be an inside job?

Sorry Madam Press Secretary,  but I don't think the GOP can count that high.

One take-away from this: the smart kids are leaving Florida.

I'm no expert on this artist, but I thought this was funny.

So what do you think they value more? White kids or guns?

Seems to me that we're about due for a Federal Override on all this horseshit.

Read between the lines. Not only no passengers, but no crew either.

And because I love you, here's the funny video for the first song in this week's list.

Radio Free California Episode 2312 and hey! There's a podcast now! Also cheap shots.

New music this week from Avenged Sevenfold, The Damned, Moule, Aly & ASJ, Downpilot, Darkcave, M83, Genevieve Artadi, Daddy Long Legs and much more. Enjoy!

I am testing a new idea, to also create a podcast version of these playlists. It's the same playlist, but I've added notes about the artists and the songs, how I found them and some personal information about the artists. It isn't much more, but it can give you some insight as to how I put these playlists together. It plays in the Spotify App. I'm not saying I'm going to keep doing these or do them every time, but I wanted to at least try it out.

++++++

Cheap Shots:

No motherfucker, it ain't the crime, it's the coverup.

Dear Atlanta Grand Jury, Fulton County District Attorney et. al: Lower the boom on these cunts.

I swear, the Government of Florida is all 12 year-old boys. Don't talk about the gross stuff.

"...how much you have to hate your kids to get distracted by that..."

In case you haven't noticed, there is a prevalent and ongoing effort to make the U.S. Military into a Christian only organization. And not the nice Christians either.

Um, isn't both-sides genocide called... um... war? Not even going to get into the racist stuff here.

Veto baby. Veto.

There's no such thing as the people who were there before you? Racist motherfucker.

If we meet and you're wearing an AR-15 pin (like those fuckers in Congress) there's a good chance that I'm going to punch you.

Should we print signs that read "Still Alive for Number Five"?

Why isn't he back on twitter? Because it would be securities fraud.

And because I love you, here is the music video for one of the Downpilot songs on this week's playlist.

Radio Free California Episode 2311, a quick note about the Oscars, plus a number of cheap shots.

New music from legends like Yes, Peter Gabriel, Fishbone and Depeche Mode, plus great bands like Your Heart Bleeds, Theo Katzman, Blondshell, Christine and the Queens, Beach Fossils and much more. Enjoy!

I used to post Social links for the artists on these playlists, but when twitter melted I decided to stop doing this. If you want to follow any of these bands, look them up on Spotify (you can just click on the band's name in the playlist above) and go to their band page. If you scroll down and look at their bio most bands have links to their socials and websites there.

+++++++++++

I don't generally have opinions when it comes to the Oscars, except for the music categories - because I know a great deal about them. The score for All Quiet on the Western Front was the best one and it deserved the win. When it comes to best song, for me I want the song to be something that is integral to the film, not what shows up over the end credits. Far too often (and for 3 of this year's nominees) the song has nothing to do with the movie, even if thematically it ties in (like Rhianna's song for Wakanda Forever - which face it is a nice song) it's not about the movie itself. It's just song placement.

For me in order to win this category the song has to be a PART of the movie. That was only the case for 2 of this year's nominees. And one of them actually won - which is't common. I approve.

Cheap Shots (Monday is Rum day):

Side effects include your heart exploding you stupid fucks.

How stupid do you have to be to think that "woke" crashed a bank?

Who was it who said that you shouldn't trust a man who doesn't like dogs?

My only real comment on the Oscars this year is that everything that should have won pretty much did. That's kind of rare, actually.

Seems to me the only appropriate response is to refer to him as "Toadstool Tool T...."

Speaking of which, Toadstool Tool Trump doesn't want to talk under oath.

I've always thought that Kimmel is kind of a dick. He can be funny, but he's also a bit mean.

You mean it wasn't "wokeism"?

Sorry Tukkies, but he's guilty, guilty, guilty.

Given that people are starting to use Tukkie's on-air bullshit as parts of their defense, and given that it is full of lies, I think a case can be made that Tukkies should be arrested and prosecuted for OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE.

A LITERAL softball interview. Given the number of edits, you have to wonder how many of those throws resulted in catches. Neither man seems to be the type to play catch.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Texas is the Hee-Haw version of The Handmaid's Tale.

I don't think there is a safe way to set off a "Carbon Bomb".

Maybe we do need to nationalize the Railroads. I mean, fuck these schmucks.

I'm linking to this just for the headline.

And because I love you, here is the Oscar winner for Best Original Song in context. I was surprised that it won because in general Oscar voters tends to vote for the saccharine. It absolutely deserved the win.

Radio Free California Episode 2310, plus a few cheap shots.

New music from Extreme, The Church, Metallica, Dream Club, The The, Your Favorite band's Favorite Band, Magaziine,  The Dandy Warhols, The National, Haken and much much more. Enjoy!

If you want to follow these artists on social media, I recommend looking at their artist profiles on Spotify. They usually point you in the right direction to find where they like their followers to come.

Cheap shots:

All you are is dust in the swamp.

I'm pretty sure Dick Wolf will make a TV show out of this.

Meatball DeSantis is a fuckhead.

It is so strange to find myself agreeing with the sentiments expressed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but there we are.

Apparently Nazi Dildos are a thing now.

I'm starting to wonder if Mexico wants to hire Dog the Bounty Hunter and capture this terrorist.

I agree. There will be American Refugees, in America. There already are.

Careful there sir, because you know he's got a nickname for you too.

RIP to The Creature.

And because I love you, here is your favorite band's favorite band, making Cate Blanchette dance.

Radio Free California Episode 2309, plus a few cheap shots.

New music this week from Jethro Tull, Theo Katzman, Beck, Crown Lands, Atarashii Gakko!, James Reid, a great new album from U.S. Girls and another one from Lucero and much much more. Enjoy!

If you want to follow these artists on social media, I recommend looking at their artist profiles on Spotify. They usually point you in the right direction to find where they like their followers to come.

Cheap Shots:

So we're now past the Fuck Around phase and now at the Find Out phase.

While we're at it, wasn't this fucking racist leaving?

On a completely different topic, character acting legend James Hong is a national treasure.

Any time you want to think Texas is tough on crime, you might notice that it's only tough on some crime.

If you ever had "Bravo, Katy Perry" on your bingo card of things I'd ever say, fill in that spot.

As much as I hate epithetical nicknames, it looks like this one is sticking.

Can you just hear Micky Mouse saying, "Heh heh. Never mind."

And Kimmel's the one you went after? He was at best in 5th place in a 6 person race.

Anyone would tell you that America's gun is the Smith & Wesson Model 29, chambered in . 44 Magnum, not the school shooter special.

And because I love you, here is the video for the Atarashii Gakkou song in the list above. It's the first time ever that the girls don't actually appear in the video itself, but I think you'll forgive them because of this 8-bit wonder.

Radio Free California Episode 2308, cheap shots, and my thoughts on slowed and reverbed.

New music from Screaming Females (with a great new album), PONY, Nickel Creek, P!nk, AJ & Aly, Shounen Knife, @, Joe Louis Walker, and so much more, plus even I show up at the end! Enjoy!

If you want to follow these artists on social media, I recommend looking at their artist profiles on Spotify. They usually point you in the right direction to find where they like their followers to come.

Cheap shots:

Even his critics - well, the sane ones at any rate - are calling this a great and ballsy move.

I hate that we're now on deathwatch for this fine man.

It's people like this who lead me to believe that the collective age of the Republican't party is twelve.

I'm losing track of the "red meat" words these days. Is this collusion or grooming?

When 900 years you reach, look as good you will not.

I have to give special props here to Jennie Breeden, creator of the comic "The Devil's Panties", for showing you what they really mean when they say "woke".

I think he kind of has to do something like this, because children raised in Florida aren't going to be able to gain admissions to colleges not in Florida.

Red states vs. Blue States, 1976. Oh how things have changed.

And because I love you, well, I think the whole "slowed down and reverbed" trend is fucking ridiculous, but as I sang both tenor and bass in the choir of this (and because the animation is quite nice) I must share it with you.

Radio Free California Episode 2307, Dancing in Azadi Square, and a few cheap shots

New music this week from (gasp!) Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins, Trev Lukather, a great remake by Voiceplay, new music from Lies (formerly of American Football), Kelela, Paramore, Hiromi, Black Belt Eagle Scout and much more. Enjoy!

If you want to follow these artists, take a look at their artist profiles on Spotify. Many artists link to their socials from there.

++++++++++++++++++

So I have a new single out tomorrow, and I'll be honest I don't expect it to gain much traction. It's a dour instrumental track and not everyone will find it pleasing to listen to - although I do. But it does have a story.

In October of 2022 a couple, Astiyazh Haghighi, 22, and her fiance Amir Mohammad Ahmadi, 21, filmed themselves dancing and posted it on Instagram. The entire video is 16 seconds in length and you can see it here. It's a joyous expression of love.

Thing it, they did this in Iran. Specifically in a public space called Azadi Square. You can see Azadi Tower in the video. Dancing in public is illegal for women in Iran, as is men and women embracing, and women leaving their hair uncovered.

This probably wouldn't have meant much in the grand scheme of things, but between them Haghighi and Ahmadi have over 2 million followers on Instagram. The video went viral, and the government was embarrassed.

They were each sentenced to 10 1/2 years in prison. EACH.

For some context here, a man named Sajjad Heydari received a sentence of 8 years for beheading his wife. But at least he didn't embarrass the government.

How fucked up do you have to be to think this is acceptable? I'm not criticizing Islam here. I criticizing the disparity. The inequity. The idea that dancing and being in love is somehow worse than murder.

I wanted to write a song about it, but I didn't have anything at my immediate disposal to work with. I started looking through old demos I had made to see what I could work with and I came across this moody bit of work organ that is somewhat reminiscent of Led Zepplin's "No Quarter"

I remixed it, expanded it, and it will be available at all the usual places on Valentine's Day.

++++++++++++++++++++

Cheap Shots:

What the hell have we been shooting down, anyway?

Oh, in case you didn't notice, the worst environmental disaster in US History on American Soil is currently underway in Ohio/Pennsylvania.

They're not going to interview Jared.

Even this white boy liked De La Soul. This is a loss.

Can anyone really explain to me the obsession with the genitals of other people's children? I mean aside from the undeniable fact that they're all fucking perverts.

Celebrating the joys of 20% of the population during the month we celebrate their contributions isn't "woke" you fucking racists.

You know all those Jesus ads during the Super Sports Bowl game thing? Shame the people behind it don't really practice what they (pay $20 MIllion to) lecture.

It shouldn't come as a shock to you that if you erase their history, Black folks are going to get active in Home schooling

This is going to be an awkward meeting. Maybe.

I think it's worth point out that this happened two months ago, and we're only finding out about it now.

Face it, while this is pretty cool most of us won't be going to the show. But check out the news anyway - it's worth it for the video just a few scrolls down.

And because I love you, here is the video for the LIES song in this week's playlist. All the effrects are practical, and at the end they show you how they did it.

I live blogged the State of the Union Address. Here's what I said.

So I live-blogged the State of the Union address on a social media site (not twitter - I am @animeraider just about everywhere). Here is what I said, post for post.

Kristen Sinema's shoulder pads will require an extra seat in the room.

Oh hey, look at Kevin trying to look important by standing in the center of the upper stage and pointing out that he's tall.

How long can Kevin sustain that golf clap?

Ooh, Biden snubbed the Space Canary!

The White House Photographer is masked. That is all. (So was Bernie)

Is that Bono sitting in front of the 2nd Gentleman? (Yep)

Nancy is my Congress Critter. I clapped.

Biden does NOT like to wait for the applause to finish before speaking again. Common trait for someone with a stutter. This is something I know.

Don't fall asleep there Kevin.

Holy carp how many pages is that speech in the folder in front of Biden?

Lots of White Guys know how to golf clap.

Holy moly there Kevin! Did you smoke the whole joint?
Muttering: Dear lord he smoked the whole joint. (10 points if you know the movie I'm quoting)

Biden throws some shade, and it lands.

Another blogger just pointed out. This is the first speech of the re-election campaign.

The "Buy American" is a big deal when it comes to steel.

Apparently there has been an outbreak of Diabetes among members of Congress.

Oops, the Republicans don't clap reducing the Deficit.

"Good luck in your Senior Year."
I laughed.

Another blogger said, "What those "1870" pins are about: the first police killing of a free black man in the US: Henry Truman, killed March 31, 1870, by a police officer later convicted of manslaughter. "

If I were a billionaire I would be happy to pay more taxes than a school teacher.
I would be happy to pay more taxes than 100 school teachers.

Biden scolds the hostage holders. Then he spanks them. Then he calls them liars. Then he calls out hecklers.
Somebody give him some boxing gloves.

By the way, has MTG yet said how may baby seals she killed to get the collar of that coat.?

Dark Brandon introduces Hero Brandon.

Biden puts down the hecklers by using their words and pivoting topics to what he knows will get a big applause from his supporters.
Nicely done.

While I was out of the room I'm told that Kevin shushed someone. Any idea who? (Someone replied "Can't prove it but I am hoping it is the fur-wearing bitch MTG")

Making the Republicans stand and clap by giving credit to Bush Sr.
One of many a baller move in this speech.

FYI, I'm NOT going to watch the rebuttal. I'm not very tolerant of liars.

Overall, that was one of the more fiery and progressive speeches I've seen a President give at the #SOTU.

Welcome to the 2024 campaign.

My last comment as I'm going to have dinner now:
That part of the speech where he spanked the Republicans over Social Security was a golden moment. I'm not going to forget that.

Radio Free California Episode 2306, thoughts on Turkey/Syria, and cheap shots.

A shorter week for new music but a solid one just the same, featuring Peter Gabriel, The Winery Dogs, Kat Robichaud, Koshi Inaba, Theo Katzman, a great remake from Powerwolf, and a monster prog rock song from Canada's Crown Lands, plus much more! Enjoy!

If you want to follow these artists through social media, might I suggest you look at their artist profiles on Spotify? Most artists link to their socials from there.

Before we get into cheap shots let me blog a moment about the Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. I sometimes think that we westerners don't have a real idea of just how devastating all of this is, so allow me to point out that according to a friend of mine, who is from Turkey and is an architect, Building codes are fairly strong in Turkey, because it is as active seismically as California or Japan. But strong comes at a price, and most building are only built to withstand up to about a 5.5 Magnitude quake at best because it's just too expensive to build better. In California they're built to withstand an 8.0. In Japan it's even stronger.

But if your country isn't as financially well off as an America, a California or a Japan, you make do with what you can. So when a 7.8 is followed up within a few hours by a 7.2, This region of the world doesn't stand a chance.

There are thousands dead and that number is going to climb, probably a great deal. My architect friend is already on a plane and will get there sometime tomorrow.

++++++++++++++

Cheap Shots:

To see the other side of it, just about anything is funny when you're on a cocaine binge.

Can we please deflate this story now?

Who da Queen? Bey da Queen!

Breaking my own comment just two sentences previous, this is a great example of how little the US Military actually trusted Trump and his administration.

I know there's a long tradition of taunting the opposing team's players during sportsball, but this is a dick move.

How do you say "Florida Man" in Portuguese?

I kind of feel like quoting SNL's Church Lady.

Beggars can't be President.

I should point out that the pointy-headed fucks at Faux News are blaming this on a construction project that hasn't started yet.

Why do these Nazi morons always believe that the power grid can be crippled by a couple of fuck-ups with guns?

A good boy in Portugal.

Ron DeSantis is a motherfucking groomer.

Speaking of grooming.

And because I love you, have some VoicePlay and yes, their bass can sing that low:

Radio Free California Episode 2305, a few cheap shots and swears, and a new gin

Queue up the end of January with lots of new music! This weeks features Nickel Creek, Maaya Sakamoto, Kiffie, Ergo, Bria (the comma is part of the name), Kimbra, King Tuff, a wild remix of an old Yes song, and much more. Enjoy!

I used to link to the artists in my playlists' social media sites, with a preference towards twitter. Well, twitter is a hellscape (okay, more of one) and I don't really do Facebook, Instagram or TikTok so what I recommend you do if you find that there's an artist on my playlist you want to follow, click on their name and open their Spotify Page. If you look at their bio they usually post their preferred social media spots, with links. Some don't, but most do. Give that a shot.

In my opinion this is one of the better lists of new music I've put together.

Cheap shots:

He defied a subpoena...

Apparently the windmills are also killing airplanes and oceans now.

It keeps looking more and more like all the motherfuckers who claim the election was stolen actually stole one themselves.

A wall, eh? Seriously? What a bunch of hosers.

Scorpion disbanded, arrested, and I notice no police unions are defending these officers. They always seem to do so when the officers are white.

Goodbye to the OG, first, and best Wednesday Addams

Oh by the way, in case you haven't noticed it, COVID-19 is still as bad as ever. Mask up, motherfuckers.

I must admit, the phrase "This is some Bakersfield B.S." made me laugh.

Ever notice that people who use the word "Woke" as a pejorative are almost always assholes?

California. Picking up the slack when Republicans fail.

Don't call her Shirley. Well, fuck.

And because I love you, here is the very striking video by Kimbra, featured in this week's episode.

Oh and finally - this is not an ad. This is a recommendation. I tried this stuff this past weekend and fell in love with it. You have to buy it online, or buy it at the distillery on Treasure Island like I did, but it's amazing.

Radio Free California Episode 2304

Another busy week for new music, from long-standing artists like Metallica and Jethro Tull to indies like AmaltheuS, MOULE,  Benjamin Russell with Rob Stuart, Softcult, The Nude Party and much more. Enjoy!

Most artists post links to their social media platforms in their biographies on Spotify. If you want to know more about an artist, I'd start there.

++++++++++++++++++++++
